With the Bahrain pearl earrings by Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Kate set a special sign at the Holocaust Memorial Day.

Princess Kate (43) recalled the victims of the Holocaust in London on Monday. At the memorial service on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the wife of heir to the throne, Prince William (42), wore the historical Bahrain pearl earrings of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022)-a piece of jewelry with special history and symbolic power.

According to the serious occasion, the princess chose a subtle outfit: for black trousers by Roland Mouret and a simple Catherine walker coat, she combined a multi-row pearl chain. However, the focus was on the meaningful earrings that Queen Elizabeth II had once received as a wedding gift.

The Bahrain pearl earrings were among the favorite pieces of the late monarch. After their death, they went into the possession of Kate, which she has been wearing on special occasions since then – including the funerals of Prince Philip (1921-2021) in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 at Windsor Castle.

Since Queen Victoria (1819-1901), female royals have traditionally been carrying white pearl jewelry to official mourning events. After the death of her husband Prince Albert (1819-1861), Victoria only appeared in black with pearl jewelry for 40 years. This tradition continued in the royal family over the years.

For Princess Kate, the memorial service on Monday was one of her first public appearances since her cancer treatment was completed. In March 2024, the mother of triple made her illness public and underwent chemotherapy. After her successful therapy degree in September, she gradually returns to her royal duties.
