Almost like in a Hollywood action film, the evacuation of Meryl Streep in front of the devastating fires in Los Angeles was designed.
The woman himself is: actress Meryl Streep (75) literally took her fate into her own hands when the Los Angeles County wald fires raged in the early January. As her nephew, writer and essayist ABE Streep, in a essay published on January 29 in the “New York Magazine”, the Oscar winner had to cut her way off the property in order to be able to save herself.
Cut the auto -grown hole into the fence
“My Aunt Meryl Streep received the order for evacuation on January 8, but when she wanted to leave the house, she found that a large tree had fallen in her entrance and blocked the only outcome,” wrote Abe Streep. His famous aunt step towards action: “She was determined to get out, borrowed a wire shear from a neighbor, an auto -grown hole cut into the fence that she shared with the neighbors, and then drove through her garden to escape.”
ABE Streep describes various fates in the essay and deals with the questions of what people have lost and how the affected areas can be rebuilt. For example, “The Sixth Sense” star Haley Joel Osment (36) lost his house at the Eaton fire and thus 500 records and a piano that his parents had given him on his 18th birthday.
At least 29 dead
In the fires, which have now largely been contained, more than 16,000 buildings have been destroyed since the beginning of January and an area of more than 150 square kilometers has been devastated. The number of fatalities has increased to 29. On Monday, all residents of the Pacific Palisades district were allowed to enter their properties for the first time, as the Mayor of Los Angeles announced via (formerly Twitter). It has not yet been clarified why the fire broke out.
