JJ is currently on the stage of the Vienna State Opera. In May he wants to show in Basel that he is also at home in the world of pop.
Austria sends an opera singer with a casting show experience for the Eurovision Song Contest to Basel. The 23-year-old countertenor Johannes Pietsch, who competes under the artist name JJ, was presented as a candidate after an internal selection process with the integration of ESC fan clubs by the broadcaster ORF.
JJ, who can sing in very high positions with his countertenor voice, will only present his song in early March. “It will be a mixture of my two main worlds with which I grew up, with pop and classical – and there is a surprise,” he told the Ö3 radio station.
The artist with Austrian and Filipino roots had participated in “The Voice UK” in 2020. The following year he made it into the final shows in the Austrian casting format “Starmania”. He is currently studying singing in Vienna and is on stage in the Vienna State Opera as the first boy in Mozart’s “Magic Flute”.
Last year, the Austrian singer Kaleen took the penultimate place in the final at the ESC in Malmö. The German music contribution for the ESC 2025 will be determined in four live casting shows from February 14th on RTL and in the first. The competition will then take place in Basel in mid -May.
