Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner or Hailey Bieber have worn them: the Jordan 1 sneakers are immensely popular, and not just among celebrities. There’s a reason for the hype.

He is considered the greatest basketball player of all time: Netflix recently memorialized Michael Jordan with the documentary “The Last Dance”. The now 58-year-old athlete mainly played for the Chicago Bulls during his time as an active basketball player, with whom he won the championship six times. He was also a two-time Olympic champion, including as part of the legendary Dream Team that shone in Barcelona in 1992.
Jordan was also influential as a fashion icon. His Air Jordan line of sneakers remains popular to this day. Michael Jordan himself contributed to the fame of the models: he had been under contract with Nike since his fifth professional game in 1984 and wore the shoes now known as the Jordan 1. They were red and black, which posed a problem: it did not correspond to the dress code of the NBA basketball league, since the shoes actually had to be 51 percent white.
Jordan was fined $5,000 for each game. A sum that Nike paid for him. The investment paid off: it gave the shoes great publicity and contributed to their fame, which continues to this day.

This has been followed by 36 regular models to date, plus countless limited editions. Since spring 2021, the hype surrounding the shoes in Nike’s Air Jordan series has been reignited, especially the Jordan One model. There are several reasons for this: Nike launched an advertising campaign for Air Jordan in spring 2021 with celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber, who also wore them privately. In addition, the Netflix documentary fueled the hype.
Thanks to this trend, you have to dig deep for Jordans. Especially if you want a design that is no longer available for sale, for example . If you want a new design, you can buy it for as little as 100 to 200 euros. However, you have to be quick as the shoes often sell out in seconds and can then be bought on other websites for a lot more money.
However, this seems to be a moderate price compared to the prices for models such as the Jordan 1 or Jordan 4. These have now become collector’s items and are bought and sold as speculative objects. At up to $6500 a pair.
But even these incredible prices don’t even come close to the most expensive Air Jordan shoes. Just two examples: A pair worn by Jordan personally sold for $615,000 in August 2020. A pair also worn and signed by Michael Jordan changed hands in October 2021 for an incredible $1.5 million.
In contrast, 200 euros for a new pair of Jordan 1 is almost a bargain.
