Director David Lynch died in mid -January. According to the US media, the cause of death has now been determined.
The celebrated US director David Lynch (1946-2025) died on January 15 at the age of 78. The cause of death was announced last Friday, citing a document by the Los Angeles County Health Authority.
According to a cardiac arrest, the filmmaker died “with a chronic obstructive lung disease as an underlying disease,” the document says. A dehydration was also given as an essential factor. His ash was buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery cemetery according to the letter on January 22nd.
Lung disease made public
In August 2024, Lynch made public that he was diagnosed with a pulmonary emphysema. Due to the illness, the filmmaker could no longer leave his own home, as he explained in an issue of the film magazine “Sight and Sound” (via “Independent”): “I have an emphysem because I have smoked so long, and therefore has to I stay at home, whether I want or not. ” At that time he already said that it was unlikely that he would take a seat on the director’s chair again.
David Lynch’s family announced the news about his death on January 16 on Facebook. “There is a big hole in the world, but as he would say: ‘Keep the donut in the eye and not the hole,’, it said in the statement. Film greats such as Kyle Maclachlan (65), Steven Spielberg (78) or Hugh Jackman (56) then publicly expressed their grief.
In his long career, Lynch made a big name in particular thanks to his films and the mystery series “Twin Peaks”. His works include “Eraserhead” from 1977, “Blue Velvet” from 1986, the “Lost Highway” published in 1997 and the “Mulholland Drive” published in 2001.
