Harry and Meghan arrived in Vancouver on Friday. Meghan gave a touching speech in a reception.
This year’s Invictus Games will take place in Vancouver and Whistler from February 8th to 16th. At the sports tournament for wounded and injured military members, over 500 participants from more than 20 nations are expected. Initiator Prince Harry (40) can look forward to the support of his wife, Duchess Meghan (43).
The couple was spotted on Friday evening when they arrived in Vancouver. The two are said to have flown with a private charter aircraft from Santa Barbara Airport, which is located near her house in Montecito. With a convoy of three cars, we went to the five-star Luxushotel Fairmont Pacific Rim. There the couple is said to have booked a suite for 5,000 pounds the night (around 6,000 euros).
the suite should be characterized by a private elevator and its own roof terrace with a view of Stanley Park. Harry and Meghan should spend three nights in Vancouver before going to the Whistler ski area for the competitions of the adaptive winter sports.
Duchess Meghan feels “like at home” in Canada
Like one, the two took part in a reception for the participants and their relatives on Friday. One of the participants shows a section of Duchess Meghan’s speech, who announced her husband on stage. “I didn’t intend to speak tonight,” she said. “We only arrived a few hours ago, and when I touched Canadian soil, I thought: ‘I feel at home.'”
Meghan also said: “We are very happy to be here, and I would be careless if I would not take the opportunity to present someone who means a lot to me and I know that it means a lot to you,” she said In allusion to Prince Harry. Furthermore, she emphasized Harry’s commitment to want to support the participants in the coming days. “You will see him at the games, you will probably see him at the curling with you and see you cheer you on during a wheelchair basketball.”
However, what those present did not see was Harry’s use in the run -up to Invictus Games. The father of her two children is completely involved in everyday family life, when making school, packing the lunch boxes and preparing breakfast. “And then he is on the phone and Archie asks: ‘Papa, why are you on the phone?’ And he says: ‘Because Invictus is, I prepare for Invictus.’ “The tournament means a lot to him, Meghan said about her husband. “You are his family as we are his family. And I hope you can see how much of his heart he has put this week.”
Star power on stage
Various competitions in adaptive sports are held at the Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler. In addition to indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair rugby or wheelchair basketball, winter sports such as skiing alpine, snowboard, biathlon, skeleton and wheelchair curling are included. In 2014 Prince Harry launched the Invictus Games, which should offer “a way to recovery for wounded, injured and sick soldiers from all over the world”.
As can be seen in the international sports event, Katy Perry (40) appears as a headliner at the kick -off event in Vancouver. Chris Martin (47), Noah Kahan (28) and Nelly Furtado (46) will also perform. Both the musician Jelly Roll (40) as well as the bands Barenaked Ladies and The War and Treaty should appear at the final show.
