David Johansen founded the glam-punk band New York Dolls in 1971. Now daughter Leah turns to his fans – with the request for support in difficult times.
David Johansen, singer of the influential glam-punk band New York Dolls, is supported by his daughter in the fight against cancer. Leah Hennessey asked the fans of the 75-year-old US musician on Instagram for help and started a donation campaign on the “Sweet Relief” page.
Johansen had therefore received intensive treatment for cancer most of the past decade. A brain tumor was diagnosed five years ago. After Thanksgiving, he fell over the stairs to make matters worse and suffered two breaks in the back. The call says: “As funny and wise David is still, he is physically weak.” And need the help of specialists.
Johansen founded the New York Dolls in 1972 with punk organic Johnny Thunder. In 1976 the band broke apart, in 2004 there was a reunion. Director Martin Scorsese (82) portrayed the singer in the music documentary “Personality Crisis: One Night Only”.
