The second documentary of four episodes, which also premieres in March, commemorates the 50th anniversary in a very special way. With more than 60 collaborators, including SNL alumni, and covering decades of the history of SNL, “Snl50: Beyond Saturday Night” offers a look behind the scene to some of the most emblematic stamps of the institution of the American night comedy. Produced executively by Morgan Nevillewinner of the Emmy Award, each episode reveals new knowledge about the rich history of the program, decorcing the curtain of everything, from the scriptwriters to the famous audition process.
“I have been obsessed with Saturday Night Live since I have memory. For SNL50, I have been lucky enough to collaborate with some of my favorite independent filmmakers to tell some deepest stories of SNL. Together, these independent episodes provide a new SNL perspective and what makes it work, ”said Neville.
Saturday Night Live is the most nominated program in the history of the Emmy: he competed for 305 statuettes and won 84 awards, a record that is part of his indisputable legacy. The Michaels cycle, first issued on October 11, 1975, had the mythical comedian George Carlin (The Daily Show) as the first host and marked its style since its inception with that presentation sketch that always concluded with the same words that are already a registered trademark: “Live, from New York, it’s Saturday night!”.
