Shirin David is Germany’s current female superstar. Just in time for her new album “Schlard but blond” she caused a stir with an open -hearted interview.
One thing is clear: Shirin David, Germany’s current superstar, polarized. A discussion about beauty ideals followed on her summer hit “Belly Po”. The singer just gave the “Stern” a big interview in which she spoke about her aversion to the AfD and her bisexuality.
Now David (29) – the most successful singer in Germany in terms of number one hits – releases her third album: “Smart but blonde”. Not even a minute needs the rapper there to make it clear that she is iconic: “Cancel me. I love it. Sexy Bitch. I got it. A lot of money, I want it. I’m iconic.”
“Smart but blonde” shows: David likes to reinvent himself musically again and again. While their predecessor album “Bitches need rap” (2021) with severe beats and feminist announcements, such as a liberation from oppressed feelings, most of the 14 new songs are much lighter – pop, sometimes ironic, but also less rap -heavy.
She loves rap because it is an angry, direct language, David told the “star”. “Anger is also part of my character. I am a heat head.” Your private individual is more honest and authentic, “Shirin David is the spirited but perfectly man -made version of me.”
With the new record she wants to show that she could also be funny and ironic. She is now more relaxed, not so angry. This lightness can be heard from the album: many of the songs sound soft and catchy – but at one point or another, more variety would have tolerated.
David (bourgeois: Barbara Schirin Davidavičius) is angry on another level. “I vomit,” is your comment on the finding in the “star” that the AfD is currently the second strongest party in Germany. It is “100 percent” against the party. “As a person and also in my music, I represent values such as feminism, self -determination, democracy, freedom of expression.”
David: Is underestimated at “Certain Madam on TV Show”
With this attitude – and a look that was very beautiful at the same time – David has caused irritation in the past.
The album title refers to their observation that in meetings or “with certain men on the couch in a television show” – obviously an allusion to their exchange of blows 2023 with Thomas Gottschalk at “Wetten, dass …?” – David recently said in a YouTube video. However, it could draw an advantage from this.
Gottschalk said on the show about David that he hadn’t looked at the feminist at all. “Why not?” Asked David in front of the ZDF million audience. “Because I look good? As a feminist, we can look good, and we can be smart and eloquent and beautiful at the same time. One does not exclude the other.”
Of period pain and mobbing barbies
The principle “Be smart, stand stupid” – to get what you want – they ironically grab “smart but blond” in the title song of the same name. Example: “The shelf is very high, I’m too small for that, but you are my hero, I can’t do that alone.”
Otherwise, the new album is about mobbing “Barbies”, period pain (“PMS”), being in love or the experience of style yourself with the friends for parties in the evening (“We chase through Baden-Baden in the evening with the car in the evening corrected noses, irreparable damage “).
Fans got a sample for the album at the New Year’s Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate. Staged as a flirt hit between dance pop and rap, David performed in a short white dress and plush boots – and the Berlin rapper Ski AGGU the joint song “Atzen & Barbies”.
David’s “Clean-Girl” aesthetics also runs through the plate. In “Iconic”, lines such as “Waspaille like a little bee, there is a almond for the slim line” on her “Bones Po” hit à la “as a reward, become a skinny”.
“People hate it if they can’t classify you”
With the song, David, who lives in Berlin and is also successful as an entrepreneur, kept on the top of the chart for weeks – and triggered controversy with the text. Opinions differed whether this is pure bodyshaming or clever irony.
She is often criticized to change her appearance with beauty surgeries and be feminist at the same time, David told the “star”. “For me, feminism means that all people have the same rights. And I shouldn’t be able to stand up for human rights because I am operated on?”
“People hate it if they cannot classify you,” she explained, actually with reference to your bisexual orientation. But that can be transferred to her entire image: Shirin David is a pop star with contradictions. This is what makes her so interesting – in addition to the undeniable catchiness of her music.
