Franziska van Almsick is angry with politics: “get the crisis”

For professional athletes, it is probably part of talking about mistakes and poor performance. Ex-swimmer Franziska van Almsick is extremely disturbing that this is not the case in politics.

“I miss people – especially in politics – who admit mistakes. Our error culture has almost disappeared. Nobody says: ‘I’m sorry, I made a mistake. I will learn it and will make it better,'” The four-time Olympic silver medalist in conversation with RTL. “I get the crisis when I hear some statements. We have to finally get into action. There are still too many people who talk about things. Change is urgently needed,” she also says.

In the upcoming Bundestag election, Van Almsick’s older son can choose for the first time. It is all the more important for you to speak openly about political issues at home. “It is important to me that my children develop their own opinion – not simply take over mine. I try to get them in conversation, think themselves and form their own view,” she reveals.

The recent incidents in Munich and previously Aschaffenburg are troubled by the two -time mother, she says. “There are many things in which I take care of my family and children, and a lot that lies in our own responsibility. But some events just happen – you can’t protect yourself from that. This is worried, especially as a mother”, So van Almsick.

Not only politics seems to be frustrated. The former Olympium is frustrated because little further develops in the German sports world. “I’m so sorry that nothing happens. We have been pushing changes for years, for years we have been saying that we have to work differently, that we have to do more for our athletes,” she demands in conversation.
