The US star says that people invest too much in love relationships instead of friendships. His new film “Blue Moon”, which runs on the Berlinale, is about a special friendship.
Actor Ethan Hawke advocates not only to focus on love relationships. “We are extremely distracted by sexuality,” said the 54-year-old of the dpa.
“It ensures that our romances in our brain are very important. Often it is the friendships that maintain our lives. And love without friendship is short -lived.”
Premiere with Hawke and Margaret Quiety
The US actor presents his new film “Blue Moon” at the film festival in Berlin. The drama of Richard Linklater runs in the Berlinale competition. Margaret QUALY, BOBBY CANNAVALE and Andrew Scott also play along.
The film tells of the songwriter Lorenz Hart, whose professional and private life is faltering. “Blue Moon” also deals with Hart’s friendship and cooperation with the composer Richard Rodgers (Scott).
Hawke has often worked with Linklater over the years -among other things in the “Before Sunrise/ Sunset/ Midnight” trilogy and the drama “Boyhood”. All of these films were shown at the Berlinale.
For over 30 years he was always with Linklater in Berlin to present films, said Hawke. “So I obviously attach great importance to friendship.”
