Denise Richards reveals in a recent interview that she was sexually harassed at the beginning of her career and silenced.
With over three decades of experience in Hollywood, the US actress Denise Richards (54) has experienced a lot. The changes in the entertainment industry are surprisingly observing the changes in the entertainment industry initiated by the #Metoo movement. “There was definitely a change – and not just in the entertainment industry,” explains Richards.
The actress also reveals her own traumatic experiences: as a young actress, she once wanted to file a lawsuit for sexual harassment. “I was told I would be put on the black list,” Richards recalls. “I felt so vulnerable. It was the career that I wanted to do. If you are told that you will never work again in an industry for which you are burning – that’s hard.”
Strong daughters as a model
Today Richards looks back with mixed feelings: “I am glad that women now have more a voice and are better protected. If that happened to me at my current age, I would have been dealt with differently. But I was so young, Unknown and was just at the beginning. “
The mother of triple finds inspiration today with her daughters Sami (20), Lola (19) and Eloise (13). From March 4, the family will be in front of the camera together with Richards’ husband Aaron Phypers (52) for the new reality show “Denise Richards & Her Wild Things”. “I see my daughters in our show and what strong women they are,” enthuses Richards. “I wish I had the self -confidence that they had. I was such a philanthropist at the beginning of my career.”
Traumatic memories
In the FOX series “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” Richards recently opened over another shocking experience: At the age of 15, a man tried to pull her out of a hotel lobby while she was traveling with her family. “I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t move, my body became limp,” she described the traumatic situation. “Thank God a woman came over. She looked him in the eye and he let go of me.”
The actress learned to “divide”, as she says – to pack things in drawers and continue. An important support was her mother Joni, who died in 2007. “I think what made me such a survival artist was my mom,” reflected Richards. “She always said: ‘It also passed.’ I went through a lot, but many people have that. I always said: ‘Someone else is still worse and you will get through there.’ “
“Denise Richards & Her Wild Things” starts on March 4 with two half-hour episodes on the US broadcaster Bravo.
