Usually Gwyneth Paltrow rarely dances out of line. In 2002 the actress wanted to take something new at the Oscars – that was not a good idea.
Gwyneth Paltrow is usually known as very stylish. She mostly showed herself well dressed at big events such as the Oscars-with one exception: in 2002 the actress came to the award in the unsuccessful Gothic look.
And this sight was definitely unusual: instead of in the elegant evening dress, Paltrow ran in a combination of a black -out skirt and a transparent, sleeveless top with lace -ups over the red carpet. The Gothic look came from designer Alexander McQueen. To do this, she wore striking jewelry and make-up as well as a good braided hairstyle. A look that somehow did not fit and caused a sensation – especially because Paltrow obviously did not wear a bra.
Gwyneth Paltrow today regrets that she was not wearing a bra at the Oscars
The actress was able to understand that this look was not well received and described her outfit itself as the greatest fashion faux pas. In 2013, in a Q&A on her Goop website, she explained to the question of whether there was fashionable false grips in her career: “Well, I started to be photographed in the 90s, so of course there are a few blatant. Two that come to my mind are looks that I wore at the Oscars in 2000 and 2002. The first is the Calvin Klein dress. I chose Oscar material because I wanted to disappear this year. “
Then she came to speak on the look of 2002: “Also Alexander McQueen’s Gothic look, which I was wearing a few years later. There were some problems. I still love the dress myself, but I should have weared a bra and I should just have had beach hair and less make-up. Then it would have worked as I wanted-a bit of punk at the Oscars.”

The famous dress by Alexander McQueen was referred to in the media, among other things, as a “fashion disaster” and even voted “the worst dress ever”. The deceased designer himself disagreed and found: “She looked incredible.” It was also presented in 2013 in the exhibition “Punk: Chaos to Couture” of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
