A year ago, the Spanish royal couple posed for Annie Leibovitz. The trio met again on Wednesday in front of the portraits.
King Felipe VI. (57) and Queen Letizia (52) together with photographer Annie Leibovitz (75) once again inspected the glamorous portraits she manufactured. These were unveiled in November and quickly triggered a debate. Critics complained about the high costs and the time of publication shortly after the destructive floods in Valencia.

A year after they posed for Annie Leibovitz, the royal couple met again on February 26 with the famous photographer, who has already staged many prominent. When visiting the art exhibition “The Tyranny of Kronos” in the bank of Spain in Madrid, the trio had been photographed in front of the portraits of press photographers.
The satisfaction of the king and the queen with the result and her good relationship with Annie Leibovitz were clearly recognizable at the meeting. Queen Letizia in particular, who shone in a red suit by Carolina Herrera, had a lot to tell with Leibovitz.
As the newspaper “Hola” reported, the bank of Spain paid 137,000 euros for the two pictures in the historical style. The photo shoot took place in February 2024 in the Gasparini Hall of the royal palace in Madrid. The photos taken act like paintings by monarchs from earlier centuries. Felipe VI. posed in his Capitarian uniform of the Spanish army and stands at a table standing in the photo. His wife wears a black, shoulder-free robe made from Cristóbal Balenciaga and a fox-colored voluminous cloak.
The work is designed as a diptych. Although there are two individual portraits, they belong together. The images are connected by a chair that is cut off on Felipe’s side and continues to Letizias.
Royal couple has preference for Leibovitz photos
It is an order work of the Spain for its private collection. But it is said that when Annie Leibovitz was elected, the preference of the royal couple was also taken into account. Because Felipe and Letizia are supposed to appreciate the American’s work. In 2013 they got to know the American artist when they presented her in Oviedo the Prinz von Asturia Prize in the communication and humanities category.
