Prince Andrew: How he went from spoiled kid to Randy Andy

Prince Andrew is considered Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite son. “When Prince Charles and Princess Anne were born, the Queen was not able to spend the time with them that she would have liked,” Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, told CNN. With Prince Charles, the heir to the throne was already certain – there was less pressure on Andrew and the Queen was able to pay more attention to him. But that could have taken revenge early on.

Prince Andrew has been nicknamed “the young prankster”.

Because Prince Andrew was considered a strenuous child. He was called “the young rogue” because he drove his nannies and parents mad with pranks. Once he is said to have even sprinkled itching powder on the Queen’s bed. Prince Philip is said to have found Andrew to be very similar to him, explains royal expert Nigel Cawthorne in his biography “Prince Andrew: The End of the Monarchy and Epstein”.

“Unlike Charles and Anne, who were born before their mother became queen, he had seven nurseries in four palaces, endless sumptuous treats, and far more attention from his mother,” writes Cawthorne. The rebellious boy later became a popular bachelor, writes the expert. Young girls would have scramble to date Andrew. Allegedly, his classmates called the crowd of young women around him “Andy’s harem”.

Spoiled and narcissistic

During his time in the military, he is said to have introduced himself to a pilot with, “Hi, I’m Prince Andrew, but you can call me Andrew,” to which the pilot in charge replied, “And you can call me Sir.” Marriage to Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson was passionate and turbulent. The ex-couple is still very close today.

But as Cawthorne reveals, one thing should be important to Andrew above all: himself. A woman told the author about a meeting with the 61-year-old. “He doesn’t have much conversation except about himself,” she said. And another: “He’s everything you say – rowdy, interrupts you and laughs at his own jokes.”

“Randy Andy” was born

After his split from Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew continued to live up to his nickname “Randy Andy” (“Horny Andy”). The aristocratic offspring is said to have had at least 15 different love affairs, the “Independent” calculated in 2006.
