Lammens: “Tourism is one of the great engines of economic development in Argentina”

“With the Ministry of Social Development we have made a very large infrastructure plan, with 50 destinations with more than 3,000 million pesos last year, and this year we are also with a very large investment together with the Ministry of Public Works in large works tourism infrastructure that prepares Argentina to be a world leader in terms of receptive tourism,” said Lammens.

“And all this must be accompanied by training in languages and trades and that is why tomorrow (for today) we are signing an agreement with the Minister of Education, (Jaime) Perczyk, to train Argentines to join the tourism sector. “he expressed.

Along these lines, he said that “the objective, in addition to training, is also, in the medium and long term, to transform social plans into formal work.”

“We have been working on this idea with the Minister of Social Development (Juan Zabaleta), that all Argentines who have a social plan can gradually join the labor market, which we see in tourism, especially in gastronomy. and hospitality, it is feasible, it is a great opportunity”he added.

In that sense, he remarked that “in the last five months, employment in the hotel and gastronomy industry grew by 7%” and maintained that “the tourism sector was one of the sectors that grew the most in terms of job creation, and we see the possibility of that those who have a social plan have access to formal work with what that means, with the labor rights that this entails”.

On the other hand, he said that “after the resounding success of Pre-Trip 2, recognized by the opposition, the ruling party, by the more than 4.5 million Argentines who used it, we are now working on Pre-Trip 3 to present it in the short term.”

“Surely it will be more focused, it will aim to deseasonalize demand, strengthen emerging destinations, but in the coming months we will announce it,” he said.

Asked if they were studying it or working with the chambers or the provinces, Lammens maintained that “the Preview is a plan of the National Government, the decision is made by the National State, and the public policy belongs to the National State; of course we always have a joint work with the private sector”.

Lammens explained that the Nation “is the one who uses the resources and also defines public policies in terms of what is best for the country and what is the strategic vision of the sector, not just aiming at the short term.”

“Preview 3, like 2 and 1, is developed by the Ministry team, then of course there is a Federal Tourism Council, where the Ministers of Tourism of each of the provinces are asked to say which one is the destiny they want to prop up for the political definition”he added.

He also said that “colleagues, teams from other countries come to learn about it and see how they can implement it in their places of origin. I really feel great pride as an Argentine for what has been achieved and what this virtuous program has generated.”

As for the project tourism incentives and investment lawindicated that “it is an ambitious project that we have, which has more to do with promoting or rather with definitively establishing tourism as one of the important industries for the development of Argentina in the coming years.”

“And for this -he added- we must give the sector a framework of predictability within the investment framework; predictability and fiscal incentives for investment in tourism to improve infrastructure, because we aim for tourism to be one of the most important industries in Argentina and that can grow”.

The minister stated that they are “working with all the governors and the idea is to reach Congress in March with the endorsement of the 24 governors.”

Regarding the summer season, he once again recalled that they are “breaking all the records in the number of tourists that are moving in the country. We are going to end up with over 20 million, when a good summer season is 15-17 million tourists, we are facing the best and historical season of the last 20 years”.

“No government had implemented public policies in tourism with such an impact and that were recognized by all. This program (Previaje) was the star of the season,” he concluded.
