Mohammad Rasoulof’s poly -thriller had gone into the race for the Oscar for the best international film for Germany. The award went to Brazil.
The German candidate “The Sowing of the Holy Feigenbaums” did not win the Oscar for the best international film. Mohammad Rasoulof’s polittriller had to surrender against “Forever here” (original title: “I’m Still here”) by Walter Salles. The “Best International Film” category was mostly called “Best non-English-language film”.
Rasoulof’s work revolves around the mass protests in Iran after the death of young Kurdin Jina Mahsa Amini in September 2022. The film was mainly produced in Germany and was therefore able to go into the race for the country.
After accusations and threats of prison, Rasoulof left Iran last spring, he now lives in Hamburg.
That’s what “Forever here” is about
“Forever here” by Brazilian Salles tells of a family who witnessed the cruel effects of the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1970s.
The focus is on the wife and mother Eunice Pava (Fernanda Torres), who has to witness how her husband one day is taken without explanation by government officials. Pava makes his disappearance a bitter political fighter who also holds her family together. The film is based on a true story.
