Fans of the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses can rejoice. As guitarist Slash announced in a January issue of Classic Rock magazine, he and singer Axl Rose have sorted out years of personal troubles. There will be new music coming soon.
As a 20-year-old to Los Angeles
As William Bruce Rose Jr., the hard rock legend was born in Indiana in 1962. His mother, who was only 16 when he was born, and his stepfather raised him and his two siblings in a religious manner. But Rose’s stepfather used violence in his upbringing, which shaped the later singer for his life. He struggled through his youth, sometimes had to go to prison for a few months and at the age of 20 moved to his friend and later bandmate Izzy Stradlin in Los Angeles to get his music career going. He gave up his native name and called himself Axl Rose from then on. Today he turns 60.

They formed Guns N’ Roses in 1985 and topped the charts with one of their most successful debut albums of all time, ‘Appetite for Destruction’. Singles like “Sweet Child o’ Mine” or “Paradise City” also made it to the top of the charts and are still popular today. But the band changed. In the late 1990s, Rose was the last founding member. All others were gradually replaced.
By 2008 the band was quiet. Axl Rose also withdrew almost entirely from the public eye, spending most of his time at his Malibu mansion. But with the album “Chinese Democracy” the group made a huge comeback. In 2012 the band was included in the “Rock and Roll of Fame” and since 2016 they have been touring the world together again.
A vocal talent that often got in his own way
Axl Rose, who was accused of going it alone too often, often got in his own way with his selfishness. That’s why Guns N’ Roses kept falling apart. The musician’s private life was like a roller coaster ride. He dedicated many songs to his relationships. In 1990 he married model Erin Everly, for whom he wrote Sweet Child o’ Mine. However, after only nine months, the couple separated again. Rose was ranked number 64 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
He not only gives his voice to Guns N’ Roses, the Australian hard rock band AC/DC also “borrowed” the US singer for their tour in 2016 when the actual front singer Brian Johnson was absent due to illness.
