While the singer was in the spotlight, Carl Dean preferred to stay in the background. However, a country hit became world famous to inspire Parton.
The husband of country star Dolly Parton is dead. Carl Thomas Dean died in Nashville on Monday at the age of 82, said the 79-year-old US singer about her social networks.
“Carl and I have spent many wonderful years together. Words of love we shared for over 60 years cannot do justice.” She did not indicate a cause of death. Parton asked for privacy for her family.
Parton and Dean have been married since May 1966 – more than 58 years. The building contractor and the singer had no children.
In contrast to Parton, her partner held back from the public. “It’s just not his kind,” the singer told the US portal “Entertainment Tonight” 2020 in an interview. “He is a quiet, reserved person and he thought, if he was ever out there, he would never have a minute calm.”
The story behind “Jolene”
In one of Parton’s most successful hits, “Jolene”, it is about Dean – and a bank employee who gave him beautiful eyes. “She had terribly crushed in my husband,” said the singer in 2008 to public broadcasting NPR. Parton said to Dean: “Damn, you spend a lot of time in the bank. I don’t think we have so much money.”
It was a running gag between the two. “Jolene” is therefore an “all -round innocent song, which sounds like a terrible”.
