Surprising comeback: David Arquette is also part of “Scream 7”

David Arquette (53) surprisingly returns to “Scream 7”. The industry magazine “Deadline” wants to experience this exclusively from an insider. The actor embodied Deputy Dewey Riley in the first five films, who was finally killed.

The figure first dived in the original film “Scream – Scream!” (1996). Dewey Riley is the older brother of Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) and clumsy policeman who tries to educate the murders in the city of Woodsboro. Tatum was the fifth victim of the serial killers of the Woodsboro Murders (played by Skeet Ulrich and Lillard), which Dewey took with him very much. He was then murdered in the fifth part (2022) by Amber Freeman, played by the freshly baked Oscar winner Mikey Madison (25).

How the “resurrection” is explained in the seventh part is not yet known. But the film death does not seem to be an obstacle to a comeback: Before that, it became known that Scott Foley (52) and Matthew Lillard (55) will also return to “Scream 7”, although their characters were also killed.

In July 2024, Arquette was unsuspecting at an appearance at “Watch What Happens Live”. At that time, when asked by a fans, he replied whether his return in any form was possible, with the words: “I don’t think – I mean, I don’t know. I guess it is possible, but I have no calls or anything.”

In “Scream 7” there is also a reunion with Neve Campbell (51) and Arquettes ex-wife Courteney Cox (60). The planned theatrical release is February 2026.

The series is one of the most successful horror franchises. The first part ran in 1996, followed by “Scream 2” (1997), “Scream 3” (2000) and “Scream 4” (2011) directed by Wes Craven (1939-2015). In 2022, the fifth part was published by the first “Scream” film after the director’s death. “Scream VI” was published in 2023.
