Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her 70th jubilee on the throne this year. An almost unbelievable milestone. But at the same time, the monarch is worried.
One would wish Queen Elizabeth II could celebrate her platinum anniversary worry-free this year. But given the current problems plaguing the queen, that hardly seems possible.
Queen Elizabeth II: She can build on these family members
The elderly monarch receives support primarily from the direct heirs to the throne, i.e. her son Prince Charles and grandson Prince William. She can count on both of them. William and his wife, Duchess Catherine, in particular, are the figureheads of the royal family. Far more unnoticed but at the same time very important, her daughter, Princess Anne, also supports the Queen. She is the royal with the most work assignments – almost every year. Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall is also very close to her grandmother.
Meanwhile, the Queen can rely a little less on Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, who very rarely return to Great Britain after moving to the United States. Her grandson’s break with royal life most likely left its mark on the head of the family.
Prince Andrew worries her
But her biggest headache is probably her actual favorite son: Prince Andrew. Ironically, in the year of the platinum anniversary, the accused Duke of York is facing a civil trial. More and more details about his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell also put the royal family in a bad light.
Andrew has just made it clear through his lawyers that he is not seeking an out-of-court settlement. An agreement could possibly have prevented more and more internal information from becoming public. That would have been so important, especially in the year of the platinum anniversary.
