Unhappy “chain of events” instead of responsibility: Liam Payne’s good friend Roger Nores talks about the death of the singer.
In February 2025, Rogelio “Roger” Nores was acquitted of the accusation of the negligent killing of Liam Payne (1993-2024) – now the best friend of the late singer of One Direction spoke out. The Argentine businessman talked about the events that led to Payne’s death on October 31, 2024. The boy band star had fallen from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. In his body there were traces of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants.
Roger Nores saw that Liam Payne had a drug problem. “You do what you can do, but in the end it was his decision,” he said. “You start to see a chain of events, and it was just an accident that happened in a way that ended in a tragedy,” he added.
Roger Nores: No pension obligation for Liam Payne
According to Nore’s lawyer, who was present in the interview, his client Liam Payne’s family wrote an email shortly before his death. In it he encouraged her to send the singer to a withdrawal.
Last month, a court had decided that Roger Nores had no obligation to provide Liam Payne. Two employees of the hotel in which the star came to death were also acquitted of the accusation of negligent killing. However, two other hotel employees who are said to have provided Payne with drugs remain detained.
“Every day together”
After the death of Liam Payne, rumors had arisen that Roger Nores was his manager. But the US Argentine is said to have been only a good friend of the dead. “The last six months of his life were together every day, all the time, together with our friends at the time,” said Nores. They are said to have met too on the day of the accident. The two men got to know each other in 2020 and have always visited each other since then.
For Liam Payne’s fans, who also give him a joint responsibility for his death after the verdict, Roger Nore’s understanding. “If someone with whom you grew up with their voice, their songs, suddenly is no longer there, it’s difficult to cope. They try to find an explanation.”
