A lot of time together as a family – Sebastian Vettel experienced this as a child. And he now implements that as a triple father.
In 2022 Sebastian Vettel (37) withdrew from the hectic racing driver life. Since then, the father of triple has enjoyed that he has more time for his family. In now he has spoken new insights into his everyday life beyond Formula 1.
Pass on experiences from his childhood
In it he tells that he only became aware of how much he had been traveling as a racing driver after his resignation. “When I was still in there, I thought: I’m back home soon, just a few days, then I was back. When I resigned, I noticed that I had slept more than at home.” He doesn’t seem to miss the hectic times: “I enjoy having a completely different everyday life now.”
Above all, this includes family life. “It’s nice that I have time,” he replies when asked whether he was rising in his role as a father. “I can also look back on a very rich childhood, in which I was able to spend a lot of time with my parents and siblings.” This time together is the most beautiful thing his parents gave him. “I live that too. Even if I don’t travel from kart track to kart track with my children, like us back then.” Because that just didn’t arise. Vettel previously emphasized that he does not necessarily want to push his children towards racing.
“A normal camper family”
Instead, the family is apparently more common at the campsite. They are “a normal camper family” there. He was also shaped by his childhood: “Very, we were in the motorhome weekend after weekend, that was incredibly great. Camping is also about memories and experiences that I want to enable my children.” If he is recognized at the campsite, some with campers would be amazed – “but after the first beer it is over”.
In everyday life, the Wahl-Swiss is often on the move by public transport. “Zurich is the perfect example that it makes no sense to move by car in a city,” says Vettel. He is also recognized on the train from time to time, “but I appreciate the Swiss people that they are very discreet.” It is different in Germany and other countries.
That’s why he wants to stay in Switzerland with his family
This is also the main reason that Vettel no longer wants to leave Switzerland. “I feel very comfortable. The initial ignition was that I was involved in Sauber as a test driver – even if I quickly switched to Toro Rosso. I liked it here. And of course there were also tax advantages. But I also had it in the place where many of my ex -colleagues live.” But after Monaco it doesn’t push him: “Switzerland is incredibly beautiful, a paradise. Monaco is certainly nice and a little warmer, but living in such a concrete desert would not be for me. I need space, mountains and nature.”
Vettel has lived in Switzerland since 2007. He has been with Hanna Sprater (born 1987) since his school days. The wedding took place in 2019. In 2014 and 2015 the daughters Emilie and Matilda were born, in 2019 the couple welcomed a son.
