Michael Fassbender reveals that he recommended Daniel Craig in his 007 casting. “Should have advertised myself,” he jokes today.
In a casting, it is actually common to put yourself in the best light and emphasize your strengths. With Michael Fassbender (47) it was obviously different. The actor has now revealed that, in his audition for the role of James Bond, he praised his later competitor Daniel Craig (57) in the highest tones – instead of himself.
Surprisingly, chattered barrel about his bond application. “I just got to know Barbara Broccoli fleetingly, and I was even in an audition before Daniel [Craig] It was cast, but I don’t think I’ve ever been involved, “the German-IRE recalls the meeting with the mighty bond producer.
Curious self -sabotage
What followed then borders on self -sabotage: “But I remember how I went into the room and with her and with her and [Michael G.] Wilson met and I think I said: ‘Daniel Craig is …’ I don’t know why I campaigned for him. I should have promoted myself, “laughs Fassbender about his faux pas at that time.
“Obviously Daniel did a fantastic job and, I think, became the most successful bond of history. But that was really it, after that there was never a conversation again,” summarized his short bond adventure.
This story is part of the self-critical assessment of its casting skills in Fassbender. “I was terrible at the audition,” he admits and also reveals how he played his chance of a role in “Mad Max: Fury Road” carelessly: he simply appeared an hour late for the casting on the Warner-Bros. site.
Henry Cavill was also in the race
In addition to Fassbender, Henry Cavill (41) was one of the candidates for the new occupation from 007 to Pierce Brosnans (71) last appearance in “Die Die another day”. “Casino Royale” director Martin Campbell raved about Cavills last year: “He was great in the casting. His acting was enormous,” said Campbell. “If Daniel hadn’t been, Henry would have given up an excellent bond. He looked fantastic, was in great physical condition … as if set. He only looked a bit too young at the time.”
After Daniel Craig’s farewell to the role of the secret agent in “no time to die” (2021), the search for a new James Bond is still in progress. Anyone who will embody the agent with the license to kill in the future will remain one of Hollywood’s best kept secrets.
