Rolle shoes have put their girls image from the 80s. Currently more adults curve with the quads through everyday life. What you should pay attention to when buying and the first tour.
For any reason that is not obvious to me, you like to connect roller skates with snotty brats in a Pippi look that chewing chewing gum and skating in hot pants through pedestrian zones. To “admire”, among other things, in the moderately successful US cinema film roller girl from 2009 and the videos of the German One-Hit Wonder Rollergirl (“Dear Jessie”). A cliché of many that should only play a subordinate role (little joke) below.
Inline skates went out the rank some time ago. Almost a million Germans from the age of 14 regularly slipped into inliner or scooter skates in 2021. This was the result of a survey by Statista. In addition there are at least as many children. The vast majority of skater newcomers opt for inline skates, i.e. basically the summer version of ice skates. This was the result of my observation. Why actually? Quad skates, as roller skates are also called, seem clear at first glance less tilting -tilting and more stable to be. The Roll are – as with a skateboard – Mounted on axis in pairs. The stand area is therefore significantly wider than in inline skates, where the roles are “in a line”, that is, one after the other. It is probably the herd instinct that plays an important role in the decision for inline skates. The selection is also significantly larger. But roller skates are currently celebrating a considerable comeback. More and more children, but also adults, discover the stylish quads and cruise through everyday life.
Inlineskates vs. roller shoes: the 5 most important differences
- Rolling: While the roles at inline skates are arranged in row, i.e. one after the other, the roles are mounted on two axes during roller skates. As a rule, you are on four rubber rollers. So-called Speed skates with only three roles are available for professionals and advanced users, with which significantly higher speeds can be achieved.
- Brakes: Roller -skiers brake over a stopper attached to the front under the shoe. Depending on the price range, this stopper can be adapted to the driving skills.
- Steering: With inline skates, the roles integrated in the frame cannot be steered. Different in roller skates and the axes mentioned. Here the direction can be actively influenced by shift in weight.
- Roller diameter: Inline skates roles usually have a larger diameter. The 4-roll variant is 84 or 90 millimeters, and 125 millimeter rolls are installed in the tri-skates. They are also narrower than their roller skate colleagues.
- Shoe/boot: In terms of style, roller skates are clearly ahead. This is because the role arrangement is suitable for almost every shoe to assemble a frame (and later the roles) under the sole. In addition to the sporting aspect, roller skates at the same time become a fashionable accessory. This is not possible with inline skates.
Degree of hardness, comfort, wear: You should know that
The roles are the crucial elements of roller skates. And there are some rule of thumb on which you should orient yourself. Basically, the following applies: Small and light skaters: inside should grab narrow and softer rollers. They are considered particularly agile and can be better checked. But the top speed is not quite as high. The heavier and larger roller ski drivers: the inside, the wider and above all harder the roles should be. Incidentally, this also applies to inline skating. The hardness of the urethane roles is given in Germany using the so-called A scale. In theory of 1A (very soft) it ranges to 105 a (very hard). As a rule of thumb: If you are looking for softer roles, you should search in the range between 85a and 88a. Hard (and more aggressive) roles are between 89a and 92a. Soft roles drive much more comfortably, but they wear out a little faster than their hard buddies.
Roller shoes for adults: The most important accessories
The most important accessories and spare part are of course the roles. They are available in all conceivable colors. As a rule, they are available as 4 sets. Important: The ball bearings are not always included. Not everyone can buckle up their roller skates right on the doorstep and drive off. If you want to transport the quads safely and have your hands free, you should be over one or ponder. The second is particularly useful for short paths. The bag is the better choice on longer excursions.
As with cycling and scooter driving, the security helmet is also mandatory when it comes to wheelchair. Instead of the sporty racing bike helmet, it is better to use the casual port of nuts (e.g. from ). Beginners and newcomers to roller skate are also well advised to protect their knees, elbows and wrists with appropriate pads. They are usually available as a set (e.g. from ). Last tip: For the unlikely case that screws or the roles loosen, clever roller skate drivers have a handy on every tour with the most important screw and Allen keys.
