Prince William repositions his children when Aston Villa plays badly and discusses anonymously in fan forums.
As the future king, Prince William (42) is mostly with precise observation of the public. However, he lives out his passion for football with surprisingly human features. The heir to the throne now gives rare insights into his football passion for the Aston Villa association – including superstitious rituals and secret online activities.
His children are used as lucky charms
Among other things, he uses his three children as lucky charms. “If we don’t play very well, I start to walk around quickly in the house, and I position the children at different places – in the hope that our happiness will change,” the father of three confessed in an interview.
While the children – Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6) – own all villa jerseys and occasionally accompany him, William emphasizes that he does not want to force them to fans of the club: “They don’t have to be all villa fans.
The Royal also revealed that he regularly travels to Birmingham for his club’s Champions League games. He tries to see as many games as possible.
Anonymous in fan forums on the way
Another surprising unveiling: the future British monarch regularly mixes – anonymously – in the online forums of Villa fans. “I like to go to the forums, I can stay there for hours. I listen to what other fans have to say and give my opinions about it. I will increase a lot. It is important to me.
It is interesting that William’s enthusiasm for football really took off when his favorite club relegated to the second division in 2016. “Strangely enough, Villa’s descent made it even more interested for me,” he said.
Praise for the trainer
In the conversation, which took place in the Aston Villa training center, William also praised coach Unai Emery: “He is a fully obsessed man, and that is transferred to the players.” The Spanish coach is “a really good coach” and a leader that you can learn from.
William attributes his reference to Aston Villa to a visit to the stadium in his youth. “With the camaraderie among fans, the singing and the mood, I just felt like I was part of it,” he recalls that match against Bolton.
William recently caused a royal fan moment when he drank a beer with Villa supporters before his team’s away game in a Wetherspoons pub in Birmingham. “I like to mix with the fans. I love everything that has to do with villa,” said the Royal, who sees itself as a “part of the villa family”.
