Even a Hollywood director doesn’t experience this every day. Joseph Kosinski particularly likes to remember an experience with Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton.
US director Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”) has highlighted the contribution of record world champion Lewis Hamilton on the new Formula 1 film “F1”. Above all, an experience with the British racing superstar has become impressed by the 50-year-old. On the first day, he, Hamilton and Brad Pitt, who plays one of the leading roles, were together on a race track. They jumped into the cars and drove around. “This is one of the things I will never forget: Lewis Hamilton as a driving instructor.”
Hamilton, who won the Formula 1 World Championship seven times, is a co-producer of the film, which celebrates its premiere under the name “F1” at the end of June. In addition, the 40-year-old Brit, who has been playing for the traditional Italian team since this season, helped Ferrari as a consultant for the Hollywood strip.
Hamilton was not only significantly involved in the technical aspects, but also in the history of the film in its development phase. “We tell the story of Sonny Hayes, who is a kind of racing driver veteran, and Joshua Pierce, who is a newcomer.” Hayes is played by Pitt, Pierce of Damson Idris.
After a serious accident in the 1990s, Hayes then competed in other racing series until a friend (Javier Bardem) brought him back into Formula 1. As a mentor, Hayes is supposed to lead the highly talented young Pierce to success. “Lewis was both. He almost won as a rookie in his first Formula 1 season (2007) and now he is seven-time world champion. He experienced everything, so to speak.”
