Timothée Chalamet auctioned Bob Dylan’s denim jacket from the 80s

Last year, Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet (“Dune”, “Wonka”) was seen several times in outfits at events that reminded of more or less legendary looks of his role model Bob Dylan, 83.

For example, the combination of oversized leather jacket, knitting hat and blond pony, with which Dylan opened in 2003 to the Sundance Film Festival, where his film “Masked & Anonymous” was shown. Chalamet took over the idiosyncratic look in December 2024 for the premiere of the biopics “A Complete Unknown” in New York and thus won the hearts of many Dylan fans. In the film by director James Mangold, 29-year-old Chalamet plays the young Bob Dylan, while he started his career as a songwriter in New York in the 1960s. He was also nominated for an Oscar for the role.

But although the trophy did not work in the end, his enthusiasm for the legendary musician he was allowed to embody seems to have not been subsided. In an Instagram post, he thanked many companions for the (also corona-related) for a long time he was preparing for the role: it was seven years. And in the photos for that post, he wears an interesting piece of clothing: a denim jacket with colorful patches that the real dylan once wore.

“If it takes a little longer than seven years, it’s not just a phase – it is now part of my life,” writes Timothée Chalamet. His life now also includes the jacket that Bob Dylan wore in 1987. In the strip he played a removed rock star who finds sense in his life due to the acquaintance of a talented musician. Although Dylan – no professional actor – was praised for his performance at the time, the film was more likely to be criticized and was not a commercial success.

After completing the filming, the striking piece of clothing landed in a museum in Ireland and was sold from there to a private collector. He now had it auctioned online – and Chalamet struck. According to the website of the online auction house, he paid a proud $ 25,400 for the denim jacket, the equivalent of around 23,300 euros.

Both the mail and chalamets live for the decades in Bob Dylan’s life, which are not necessarily considered its most successful or most secure, the hope that “A Complete Unknown” will not remain the only Dylan biopic in which the 29-year-old embodies the legendary songwriter. “The ‘Hearts of Fire’ remake that we didn’t know about it-but that we want to see now!” Commented a user on Reddit. Another demanded: “I would say that he should film the Dylan story as a series of films over his entire career, always bring out a film when it fits.”

It is interesting that in his posting on Instagram not only director Mangold, whom co-stars Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro as well as others involved in the film, not only bobs and musician Joan Baez, but also thanks to the musicians Finneas (the brother of Billie Eilish) and James Blake. Timothée Chalamet performed with Blake in the US comedy show “Saturday Night Live” and performed two dylan songs. But what did Finneas contribute? Maybe given to him guitar lessons?
