Death of Gene Hackman and his wife: What did dog “Zinna” die from?

The circumstances around the death of the Hollywood star Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, are still a little more tragic. Now the police announced how the couple’s dog died. If the first reports had suggested that the couple and his dog “Zinna” had come to death at the same time, investigations later showed that Arakawa died of Hanta viruses and that her husband suffering from Alzheimer’s only several days later on a cardiovascular disease (The star reported). The dog together was not immediately dead.

“Zinna” is said to have died of dehydration and hunger, according to the broadcaster ABC. The animal had apparently been locked up in a bathroom, where his basket was also stood – where it found neither food nor water after Betsy Arakawa’s unexpected death. The dog’s body was almost mummified when it was found, which indicates a lot of drying out. The veterinarians did not find any evidence of poison, injuries or an illness in the dog’s autopsy.

Apparently “Zinna” also survived her owner for several days, but then died and starved. The dog’s stomach was largely empty when examining the hair and bile. “If the dog was in a narrow room without access to food or water, the dog most likely died of dehydration/hunger,” concluded the responsible veterinarian in the autopsy report.

The dog is said to have been 12 years old and successfully participated in agility competitions. “Zinna” would have won several awards, it is said. The Hackmans also had two other dogs, “Bear” and “Nikita”, which were with a dog sitter at the time of the tragedy. They survived and are now being looked after in a foster home.
