Grief for Fritz Scherer: The long -time President of FC Bayern died at the age of 85.
FC Bayern Munich and the German football world mourn Fritz Scherer. The former president of the German record champions died in Munich at the age of 85 ,. Scherer was connected to the club in numerous functions and offices over the years, member of the club since July 1, 1971 and most recently had membership number 418.
Under Fritz Scherer, Bayern became the record champion
FC Bavaria President Uli Hoeneß (73) remembers in the announcement that “as Fritz Scherer and I started together at FC Bayern in 1979, as a treasurer, I as a manager: At that time the club had a turnover of twelve million marks-today it is around 950 million euros”.
Scherer was president of the club from 1985 to 1994. In 1987 the club became the German record champion. He was replaced by Franz Beckenbauer as President. Until 2012 he remained vice president under the “emperor”. Previously, he worked as a treasurer from 1979 to 1985 and later became an honorary vice president.
Herbert Hainer (70), the incumbent President of FC Bayern, also praised the deceased in the highest tones. “Fritz Scherer was faithfully connected to the club for decades, and with him as the president, the headquarters of this club were set, without which FC Bayern would never stand where it is today. Fritz Scherer was an architect of today’s FC Bayern. Thank you for everything!”
