Mariah Carey lost her mother and sister in August – the singer was able to shine again on Monday evening at a award ceremony.

Mariah Carey (55), Lady Gaga (38) and Nelly (50) were honored with special prices at the twelfth award of the iheartradio Music Awards, which took place on March 17 in Los Angeles. Carey received the Icon Award, Gaga the Innovator Award, Nelly the Landmark Award. Newcomer Gracie Abrams (25) was able to accept the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award.

Mariah Carey was overjoyed over her icon award and described him as “incredible honor”. In her DankereDE, she then emotionally praised her late mother: “At this St. Patrick’s Day I would like to honor my mother Patricia Carey because she gave me the gift of music.” The mother and sister of the singer both died in August 2024.

Taylor Swift got eight prizes

Billie Eilish (23) and her brother Finneas (27) won with “Hit Me Hard and Soft” in the category Album of the Year (POP). Taylor Swift (35) once again counted among the clearers of the evening. She was nominated ten times and ultimately took eight awards with her – including as an artist of the year and for the tour of the century.

The singer did not come to the award ceremony, but kept a thank -you speech by video. “It is often said that the biggest challenges in life are sometimes something you are proud or the greatest feeling of happiness when you have grown to the challenge. And this tour was absolutely the biggest challenge that I have ever made in my life. It is a 3.5-hour show, more shows than I have ever done on tour.” Swift added that they are still “constantly” thinking of the tour – and that they were their “fans” who had helped her get through all the appearances. Then an exclusive appearance of the opening night of her Eras Tour was shown.

Rapper LL Cool J moderated

The iheartradio Music Awards honor the most played artists and songs of the iheartradio broadcaster and the iheartradio app in 2024 and at the same time offer an outlook on the upcoming hits of 2025. LL Cool J (57) acted as the host for the second time.
