Despite illness: Royals hope for meetings with the Pope
Pope Francis has been in the hospital for a good month. Great Britain’s Royals hope to be able to meet him in early April. The royal couple then also celebrates a special date.
Great Britain’s royal couple hopes for a meeting with Pope Francis, who has been in the hospital for a good month and is treated for pneumonia. His state of health had recently improved. The trip abroad by King Charles III. (76) and Queen Camilla (77) in the Vatican and to Italy should take place as planned from April 7th to 10th, the palace in London said.
An audience with Francis (88) is also planned. It is hoped and pray that it allows its health to take place as planned, the British news agency PA quoted a source in the palace.
A special wedding day
The Royals also want to visit Rome and Ravenna. The trip coincides with the 20th wedding anniversary of the royal couple. Charles and Camilla married on April 9, 2005 – for both it is the second marriage. The palace did not announce what is planned for the anniversary.
Charles should speak in the Italian parliament during the state visit and President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. With the Pope, the Royals – depending on its health – want to celebrate the Holy Year. The Catholic Church usually celebrates such a jubilee year every 25 years. Charles is not only British head of state, but also head of the Anglican Church of England. A visit to the Sistine chapel is also planned.
