With “goosebumps” speech by son Joel: This is how the Beckenbauer Cup ran to commemorate Franz Beckenbauer in Munich.
For the 125th birthday of FC Bayern Munich – and in honor of Franz Beckenbauer, who died in 2024: On Monday evening (March 17th) the Beckenbauer Cup took place in the SAP Garden in Munich. The proceeds from the indoor tournament benefited from the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation. Since 1982 it has been committed to people with disabilities and for people who are sick or in no fault of their own.
Before the kick -off, Franz Beckenbauer’s son Joel (born 2000) came to the microphone. “The whole body gets goose bumps”, “we are full of honor and pride,” continued Joel Beckenbauer. And: “I never saw my father live. It is unbelievable how many hearts he lives on.”
Joel’s mother also spoke up. Heidi Beckenbauer thanked “from the heart” with those responsible for Bayern Munich for the tournament “in honor of Franz”. FCB President Herbert Hainer (70) presented Heidi and Joel Beckenbauer a check of 75,000 euros.
FCB with Lothar Matthew wins Beckenbauer-Cup
Legend teams from six teams competed against each other at the Beckenbauer Cup. In addition to FCB, these were Real Madrid, AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam. Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart were also from Germany from Germany. For the old men’s selection of Bayern Munich, Lothar Matthäus (63), Giovane Elber (52), Arjen Robben (41) and Franck Ribéry (41) laced the shoes.
In the end, the legend team of FC Bayern Munich prevailed. In the final there was a 4-0 win against Real Madrid.
