Another British series as a surprise hit: “Adolescence” leads the Netflix charts. This is probably due to the combination of social relevance and radical narrative style.

The Netflix audience has a weakness for crime stories and psychological abysses: The British Mini series “Adolescence” via a murderous teenager could develop into a serial hit of this spring.

Within the first three days (March 13th to 16th), 24.3 million calls were already registered for the four -part production from the United Kingdom (duration 3 hours, 50 minutes). The streaming service announced this in its weekly charts.

The series, which is currently on everyone’s lips, dissolves oppressive and in long intersections, as a student gets into the whirlpool of women’s hatred extremism. The topic of the series is the online radicalization of boys and young men.

“Adolescence” shows how quickly platforms such as Tikel ideology can lead (“Incel” is a suitcase word from Involuntary and Celibate (involuntarily sexually stable/celibate)).

At the center of the series is 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who murdered a classmate. When the police storm his children’s room, his parents (Stephen Graham and Christine Tremarco) are helpless and stunned. Flashbacks trace Jamie’s descent into radical online forums.

Discourses of a male psyche, production from Great Britain: that evokes memories of the last spring.

About a year ago, the British series “Reindierbaby” (Baby Reindeer) became a surprise hit at Netflix, about which everyone then talked.

Is “Adolescence” the “reindeer baby” of the spring 2025?

The series “Reindierbaby” was based on experiences of series creator Richard Gadd. It is about an unstable man who is persecuted by a stalker and is less opposed to it than it might be necessary.

“Reindeer baby” was called up more than 84 million times in the first three months after publication, later won the prize as the best mini series at the most important television award Emmy.

In the first three days in April, the series was even less successful than now “adolescence”: it “only” had around 10 million calls in the first few days.
