Many people are happy about the invitation to a wedding. Good food and a lot of fun are often waiting – but you quickly forget what a wedding can also cost as a guest.
Usually you pay almost nothing if you accept an invitation, for example, to eat. Perhaps you invest a little in a small gift or flowers, as a nice gesture, but the invitation actually always measures a higher value than what you bring with you, except maybe if it is a larger birthday present. With weddings, however, it is basically the case that the guest almost always has to dig deep into the pocket in order to be able to participate in the ceremony.
Although the bride and groom mostly spend huge amounts for decoration, food, outfits, location and Co. Due to social media and the illustrated broad broadness of private life, the festival of love has often become an extremely expensive pleasure. Above all, everyone wants to prove online how special and unique the love of the couple and how do you show that in today’s world better than with an opulent wedding abroad on a huge property?
At a wedding, the costs as a guest take a lot
What is a nice event means an enormous cost for the wedding guests. The initial joy of the invitation can quickly give way as soon as you realize that there are costs such as: flight or petrol, accommodation, outfit, gift and participation in the bachelor party. The costs are at least in the three -digit range and often enough in the four -digit, even for a wedding guest.
The payment provider Klarna carried out a study on this topic. They interviewed 1000 people between the ages of 16 and 65, whether they had canceled a wedding invitation for cost reasons and came to the astonishing result that every fourth German has done so. Furthermore, they interviewed the participants, which budget should be planned for a wedding as a guest: around 30 percent mentions 250 euros as a maximum amount, while another third sets the budget up to 500 euros. After all, three percent also consider costs of up to 3000 euros to be appropriate. The wedding portal “Weddyplace” even estimates the average costs for a wedding guest at 500 euros per person.
So it is quite logical that the more opulent and more international the wedding of a couple should fail, the higher the probability that some guests simply cannot or do not want to afford participation.
