Despite her great awareness, the former First Lady Michelle Obama is often obvious. In a podcast she now reveals how she felt after the birth of her children.
Is a third child still following the two daughters? This question also asked former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. After the birth of her two daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, the former US president expressed the wish to expand the family, in which she had a surprise appearance on March 20. She decidedly rejected this and jokes: “I said we were lucky with our two. I have the feeling that we could get a crazy child next time.”
In the podcast, Michelle Obama also speaks openly about the mixed feelings she had after the births of her daughters. It describes a mixture of deep love and concern as well as a sudden, immense sense of responsibility. “I think the sadness and the postpartum that I felt came because you loved these babies so much. You are connected to them immediately and think: ‘Oh my god, you only have me. You are so sorry. I wish you had a parent,” she said.
Michelle Obama never wanted to go to politics
Her daughters are also the reason why Obama never considered a political career – even though she has been asked by numerous people since the end of her husband’s presidency. “The thought of putting the two back into the spotlight where they have just established themselves … I think we did enough. They have already served their time,” she explains. “I wanted them to have the freedom not to have the eyes of the world. If people ask me that, they have no idea what victims bring children when their parents are in this role.”
Michelle and Barack Obama have been married since 1992. Her daughters were born in 1998 and 2001. In 2008 Barack Obama was elected 44th President of the United States and in January 2009 the family moved into their residence in the White House in Washington DC The younger daughter Sasha was the youngest child in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr.
