The American boxing legend George Foreman (1949-2025) is dead. This announced his family on Friday, as reported by the US side “Variety”. Stars from sport, but also from the show business say goodbye to Foreman on social media.
“Rest in peace, champ”
Mike Tyson (58) wrote: “My warm condolence to the family of George Foreman. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”
“Spaceship Enterprise” star William Shatner (94) wrote to a sad emoji: “Corporate condolences to George Foreman family.”
Basketball star Magic Johnson (65) wrote about his “boxing hero” George Foreman: “I visited so many championship fights by George during his career. He was a co-artist in the ring, and it was a pleasure not only to get to know him as a boxer, but also as a person.” Colleague Scottie Pippen (59) commented by Foreman in the ring with the words: “Quiet in Frieden, George Foreman. Your legacy continues, Champ.”
Actor John Cusack (58) to the “legend” away from the ring. “Just a wonderful spirit – an incredibly friendly, spacious man. I always remember every encounter with great gratitude – it was an honor to know him.”
Foreman became world famous for the 1974 fight against Muhammad Ali (1942-2016). Ali surprisingly defeated Foreman in the eighth round. Later the two developed a close friendship. After a formative experience in the ring, Foreman withdrew from boxing in 1977. Around ten years later he returned to the ring and won the heavyweight title again in 1994 at the age of 45. It was not until 1997 that he finally ended his sports career. The Foreman, born in Texas, was not only an outstanding athlete, but was later also known as a businessman and TV personality.
