The delta variant could indeed cause the corona numbers to rise again in Austria. But if you force vaccinations and switch from antigen to PCR tests, there should be no further lockdown. From the current point of view, this would be less likely than Austria will reach the quarter-finals at the European Football Championship, said the complexity researcher Peter Klimek on Monday in the “ZiB2”.

One can hope that further outbreaks will occur regionally and that regionally limited measures will also suffice in individual companies or schools. Klimek considers the extensive relaxation of protective measures announced by the government to be legitimate in view of the current infection figures. If the illnesses rise again due to the delta variant, one must be careful not to make the same mistake as last September: The government implemented the openings that had been announced long before, despite increasing numbers, and the illnesses increased massively.
Above all, it is important to vaccinate quickly and a lot. Because currently only around a quarter of the vaccinable population has both stings, i.e. complete protection. Klimek also pleaded for the antigen tests, which are currently predominant outside of Vienna, to be replaced by the more precise PCR tests. With PCR testing, for example, you can do without masks in interior rooms. Klimek considers the opening of night-time catering to be justifiable – if there is no setting around for a fourth wave to develop.
