Prince Andrew back at the Queen’s side: joint appearance planned

The Queen has officially banished her son Prince Andrew, who was involved in an abuse process, from the royal family. But as early as March she should be at his side again, as a look at the palace calendar reveals.

It was not until January that the Queen withdrew all royal patronage from her son Prince Andrew and also took away his military medals. The signal was clear: the royal family is distancing itself from Andrew, who is involved in a serious abuse process. But as early as March, Andrew should be seen again in public at the side of the monarch.

The 61-year-old will attend a memorial service for his late father, sources close to the Palace confirm to the British newspaper. Prince Philip died in April 2021 at the age of 99, the service is to take place in London’s Westminster Abbey. The Queen’s calendar places the appearance on March 29 – just days after Andrew is expected to give an affidavit on his case.

Prince Andrew is on trial as a private citizen

The allegations against him seem serious: The plaintiff Virginia Giuffre claims to have been sexually abused by Prince Andrew in 2001 at the age of 17. Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein “loaned” her to the Royal at the time. Giuffre is now demanding undisclosed damages. The civil trial could begin in the US in the fall, Andrew denies the allegations.

The Queen took action, saying Andrew would remain “not in public office” and would “defend himself as a private citizen” if the allegations were leveled against him. It is not known what will happen to him and the royal family if the prince is convicted. He still bears the title Duke of York, for example.

Actually, 2022 should be a celebratory year for the queen: Sunday marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, and big celebrations are planned for June. The Queen only returned to work this week after retiring in October for health reasons. In a letter to mark the anniversary over the weekend, the 95-year-old made it clear that she had already made arrangements for the time after her death. So it is her sincere wish that Camilla will receive the title “Queen Consort” – “King’s Wife” – after Prince Charles’ accession to the throne.
