Maria Shriver published book: After Schwarzenegger’s affair she was on the ground

In her new book, Maria Shriver (69) open the painful consequences of the separation of Arnold Schwarzenegger (77). Among other things, she reveals that she turned to shamans and clairvoyants to cope with his humiliating affair.

In 2011, Shrivers admitted that he had a child with her former housekeeper Mildred Baena. Son Joseph Baena (27) was born in 1997.

In a volume of poems with the title “I am Maria”, which will be released on April 1, she gives an insight into the extent of her pain and her efforts to cure her broken heart. In an excerpt that the US magazine “People” published, she describes the separation as a “life-changing blow”, which after the death of her parents and the end of her time as First Lady of California.

“It broke my heart, it broke my mind, it broke what was left of me,” says Shriver. “I was overwhelmed by grief and plagued by confusion, anger, fear, sadness and concern. I didn’t know who I was and where I was going. To be honest, it was brutal and I was terrible.” However, she said one day when she was sitting on the ground of a hotel room: “Maria, that doesn’t have to be your end.”

What followed was a journey in search of healing by therapists, shamans and clairvoyants as well as a stay in a closed monastery. She also found a stop in the letter: “I started to write from the bottom of my heart. Through my poems, I got to know a woman who was afraid not to do justice to her family’s heir – fear of not being big enough, not a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, journalist.”

Shriver and Schwarzenegger married in 1986, around nine years after their first meeting. In the course of their marriage they got two daughters and two sons. Christopher (27) was born a few days before Joseph’s birth. After his affair became known, Shriver separated from Schwarzenegger in 2011, the divorce was only ten years later. In his documentary series “Arnold” from 2023, the Hollywood star and former governor of California remembered the moment when he told his wife about his infidelity. “I thought my heart stopped. And then I said the truth: ‘Yes, Maria. Joseph is my son.’ She was obviously destroyed. “

Schwarzenegger admitted that the affair was his “biggest mistake” and explained: “I have already added enough sorry for my family. Everyone had to suffer. Maria had to suffer, the children had to suffer, Joseph, his mother, all. I will have to live the rest of my life.”
