Her undertaking is considered the “serious crime heir in Denmark”: two authors continue the crime series by successful author Jussi Adler-Olsen. The critics like it.
New crime food for the fans of bestselling author Jussi Adler-Olsen: In Denmark, a highly expected follow-up novel in the series around the special investigator Carl Mørck has been published. In “Døde Sjæle Synger Ikke”, the Danish authors duo Line Holm and Stine Bolther tells the story about the special department Q of the Copenhagen police in close cooperation with Adler-Olsen and complements it with a new, mysterious novel figure. In Germany, the thriller will be trading in autumn with the title “Singing Toten Souls”.
Jussi Adler-Olsen is one of the most famous authors of Scandinavia. His ten novels around Mørck and the special department q – from “mercy” to “betray” – made him known internationally, especially in Germany they found an audience of millions. At the beginning of February, the 74 -year -old successful author had then announced in the newspaper “Politiken” that they were terminally ill. At the same time, he announced that Holm and Bolther will continue the Mørck series in close coordination with him with an eleventh band.
“Jussi asked us more than three years ago whether we would like to continue the department Q series. That was long before he got sick,” said Holm of the German press agency in Copenhagen. They would have brewed together with him, while Adler-Olsen gave them a lot of freedom. “He said: get started, you will definitely do what you want. He was extremely open to our ideas and trustingly,” said Holm.
At the same time, Adler-Olsen brought in his own ideas and also his humor, added Bolther. He was then enthusiastic about the manuscript. “After reading the first 100, 150 pages, he put his hand on it and said: This is a real department-Q thriller,” said Bolther.
A mysterious French woman in the special department Q
In “Døde Sjæle Synger Ikke” someone joins new things to the side of Adler-Olsen’s main characters Carl Mørck, Rose and Assad: The mysterious French woman Helena Henry. She is the successor to Mørck, who has acknowledged the service. While the team still has to get warm with the new boss, it has to solve a gruesome series of murder – to which Mørck provides the first hot lane.
According to the Penguin publisher, “dead souls do not sing” will be on German trade on October 1st. How it goes with the series afterwards want to leave Holm and Bolther open. “Of course it will come more afterwards. But we don’t want to link a certain number of books. We continue as long as it is fun,” said Bolther.
“The hardest crime thriller in Denmark”
The eleventh for the special department Q was taken up by Danish literary critics. “Politics” certified Holm and Bolther good work – even though they had “the most severe crime heir in Denmark”. “Berlingske” also wrote that Adler-Olsen and the two authors had exceeded all expectations of leading the series of success into a new era. “The future for the Q department looks rosy,” it said at the newspaper.
