King Charles had to go to a London hospital on Thursday. His planned trip to Italy in early April is still to take place.
King Charles III’s upcoming state visit. In Italy it will be “likely to take place as planned”. after the monarch was in the hospital on Thursday. As the Buckingham Palace announced, the king had to remain in the clinic for a short time due to side effects of his cancer treatment.
The remaining dates on Thursday and a visit to Birmingham on Friday were canceled. the 76-year-old had himself examined in the private “London Clinic”, in which he was treated last year. King Charles is already back in his London residence Clarence House and worked “as usual” last night, it said.
Four days of Italy with Queen Camilla
King Charles wants to travel to Italy with his wife, Queen Camilla, from April 7th to April 10th. An originally planned visit to Pope Francis in the Vatican had to be postponed due to the Pontifex disease. In the time of his trip to Italy there is also a private occasion for the royal couple: the 20th wedding anniversary on April 9th.

During the trip, the king is also to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. There should also be a state banquet in the Palazzo Quirinale in Rome for Charles and Camilla.
King Charles III. has been treated for over a year
The Buckingham Palace made King Charles’ cancer diagnosis public in early February last year. What kind of cancer the monarch suffers from, however, was never announced. In April 2024, after a treatment and recovery phase, he returned to his royal obligations. However, cancer treatment continues.
