Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen has achieved a success against Deepfakes in court. Fraudsters had advertised with his fake face.
Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen (57) has succeeded in a possibly pioneering success before the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court. According to the WDR press release, the doctor, TV presenter and science journalist have been able to obtain several videos by the WDR press release and from now on increasingly offset against the publication of Deepfake videos. On the platform, clips were in circulation for a weight loss, for which von Hirschhausen was supposed to advertise. But the videos all turned out to be counterfeits, the 57-year-old was in no way involved in them.
Apparently, however, several people fell into the Deepfakes and transferred money to the fraudsters for a means that does not exist at all. Von Hirschhausen now hopes that the court decision will help other victims as a precedent in the future: “Affected people can now – if they have informed the platform about concrete Deepfakes – to warn the platform because of non -actively blocked, meaningful content.”
To protect democracy
In times more convincing fake videos, it is important for everyone to “raise the voice and show face. Because: my face belongs to me. And my voice too,” said von Hirschhausen. Belief and trustworthy information are in an endeavor, “our democracy [zu] Protect “, essential.
WDR director Dr. Katrin Vernau sees the decision in the decision: “The judgment for Eckart von Hirschhausen is a success for the protection of credibility, also the WDR and the entire public service broadcast. In times of false information and deep fakes on the net, we have to do everything we can to protect the credibility of our content and our protagonists.”
More and more stars are defending themselves
Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen is also one of the first signers of a petition that the author and artist Marc-Uwe Kling (43) recently launched. He demands it from Friedrich Merz (69), Markus Söder (58) and Lars Klingbeil (47): “Save democracy from Deepfkes and Manipulative Bots!”
Almost a week after the time of the creation, the petition already has over 235,000 signatures (as of March 28, 5:00 p.m.).
