Accompanied by the robot cat Sox (Peter Sonn), young Buzz encounters the expected turbulence on his intergalactic journey, which includes an encounter with “just a huge robot”.
The voice cast also includes Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Dale Soules, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr..
The tape was written by Pete Docter, the Pixar veteran and three-time Oscar winner for Animated Feature Film, who also shared an Oscar nomination for Original Screenplay for the original Toy Story. The film is directed by Angus McLanea first-time solo feature director who directed the entertaining 2013 short Toy Story of Terror.
“The world of Buzz was always something that excited me,” said MacLane, first-time solo director. “In Toy Story, there seemed to be an amazing backstory about him being a Space Ranger that is only mentioned, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my Lighytear speech was, ‘What was the movie Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky to be able to do it.”
The film opens June 17 in theaters.
