Netflix: Already almost 100 million calls for “adolescence”

The world is currently talking about this: In “Adolescence” a teenager of murder is transferred to a classmate. The stirring series is now to become a school material in Great Britain.

For the British Miniseries “Adolescence” over a 13-year-old who stabs a peers, the streaming service Netflix has already counted almost a hundred million calls after less than three weeks.

Within the first two and a half weeks since the publication on March 13, around 96.7 million calls were registered for the four -part production from the United Kingdom (duration 3 hours, 50 minutes).

Netflix, which claims to have more than 300 million paying members in over 190 countries, publishes its weekly charts on Tuesday evening, which records the streaming top-10 from Monday to Sunday.

First online week, March 13th to 16th: 24.3 million calls (views) Second week, 17th to 23rd March: 42 million call-in in week, 24 to 30 March: 30.4 million calls

“Adolescence” revolves around 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who stabs a classmate with a knife one evening. When the police storm his children’s room the following morning, the parents (Stephen Graham and Christine Tremarco) are helpless and stunned.

The murder of Katie is used in the series to explore the boy’s psyche, which has been overwhelmed by bullying, social isolation and dangerous thinking patterns about allegedly striving for masculinity.

Father actor and serial mitshöfer Stephen Graham formulated the key question of the series as follows: “Which influences of the same age, from the Internet and social media, have pressure on our young men?”

The four real-time episodes of around an hour each were shot without cut. The most impressive of the one-shot episodes (directed by Philip Barantini) find the episode three, in which a psychologist (Erin Doherty) interviews the boys to understand his horrific act.

Jamie is childish and charming on the one hand in this chamber game, but also wants to impress the adult woman with lies, finally loses mastery and tries to intimidate the expert with dominance.

British schools should be able to show series

In the UK, “Adolescence” is now also to be made accessible. Prime Minister Keir Strandmer received the series makers on Monday in the Downing Street.

The family hit the series with its teen children hard, said Strandmer. It is an important initiative to see the series with as many students as possible.

“Only by listening and learning from the experiences of young people and charities can we tackle the problems that this groundbreaking series raises,” said Starmer.

The British head of government is a lawyer and was formerly the head of the CROWN Prosecution service indictment – there he saw what devastating consequences left women’s hatred and violence, the statement said. Further schools in the country should show the mini series, which otherwise only runs against money at the Netflix streaming service.
