Lord Charles O’Hagan, sponsor of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), died on March 23 at the age of 79. the noble succumbed to the consequences of a serious head injury.
O’Hagen – With a full name Charles Towneley Strachey O’Hagan – came from a long -established nobility family and was the grandson of the British politician Maurice Towneley -O’Hagan, 3rd Baron O’Hagan. He enjoyed his training at the elite institutions Eton and Oxford before going into politics.
Close connection to the royal family
The special connection to the British royal family started early in his life. Elizabeth II became his godmother when she was still a princess and had no children herself. The queen had a total of 30 sponsored children in her long life, including her nephew David Armstrong-Jones, her sister Princa’s only son.
After the crowning glory of Queen Elizabeth in 1953, O’Hagen served as Page of Honor – a ceremonial task that he held from 1959 to 1962. This honorary task is usually awarded to sons by nobles or high -ranking military.
During his professional career, Lord Charles O’Hagen worked twice as a member of the European Parliament for Devon – initially from 1973 to 1975 and later from 1979 to 1994.
Married three times
His private life was shaped by several marriages. From 1967 to 1984 he was married to the Georgian Princess Tamara IMERENINESSKY. A ten-year marriage to Mary Claire Roose-Francis from 1985 to 1995 followed. In the same year he married Elizabeth Lesley Eve Smith, with whom he stayed until his death.
The death of Lord Charles O’Hagen occurs more than two and a half years after his godmother’s death. Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. As one of the most formative figures in modern history, she ruled 70 years and 214 days – longer than any other British monarch.
The deceased queen was made by her eldest son King Charles III. (76) Inherited, who recently commemorated his mother on British Mother’s Day. He shared an old photo that shows him and his sister Princess Anne with her mother at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1956.
