How does it live as a child of famous parents? Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, gives rare insights.
Apple Martin (20), the daughter of Oscar Prize winner Gwyneth Paltrow (52) and Coldplay front man Chris Martin (48), gives an insight into her life as a child of famous parents in a rare interview. As it was, to grow up under constant observation and why she deliberately withdraws from the public.
“It is interesting because I grew up with this unbalanced balance – being attacked by cameras at the airport and then simply being a normal child,” explains Martin in the conversation with editor -in -chief Mel Ottenberg, for whom she had worked as an intern two years ago.
As in a surveillance state
The 20-year-old particularly describes how the constant observing-up to her attitude to life affected: “I remember that I ‘monitor and punish’ [1975, Red.] Readed by Michel Foucault – a great book that deals with the surveillance state. It feels like I grew up, which is really scary and makes me very fearful to make mistakes. “
This fear of the limelight has long been burdened. “I also thought: ‘I don’t think the world needs another celebrity child,” added Martin. Therefore, they try to hide messages about themselves as much as possible and only do what they feel right for them.
While many other children of famous personalities are looking for the limelight, Apple Martin consciously relates. She only makes her Instagram account accessible to friends and family. – A social event for daughters from influential families – but public appearances are the exception for her.
More relaxed with age
Over the years, however, she had learned to deal with the pressure. “I’m getting better and better in saying: ‘Fuck’. I don’t want to be anxious. I just want to do what fun and take my life into her own hands,” explains the student in conversation.
At the Vanderbilt University, Apple Martin studies law, history and society and also realizes her creative interests as a member of the “Vanderbilt Original Cast”, a Cabaret theater group. Originally she had thought of becoming a lawyer – for a surprising reason: “I loved the acting, but was unsure and nervous, so I thought: ‘Oh my god, when I am a lawyer, I can perform on the stage at court hearings’,” she recalls and laughs at this thought.
She had prominent role models: “I remember that I dreamed of being Elle Woods,” she says, referring to Reese Witherspoo’s character from “Naturally Blond” (2001). Today she knows: “It is much more difficult than it looks. I don’t know how she managed to go to the legal faculty so fabulous every day.”
Despite her reluctance, Apple Martin knows exactly what is important to her: “I love history. I love True Crime. I love to investigate. If I were a lawyer, I would just want to help people. That is probably the most important thing.”
