On the Cinemacon in Las Vegas, Tom Cruise finds moving words for his late “Top Gun” co-star Val Kilmer.
With a moment of silence, Tom Cruise (62) honored his “Top Gun” colleague Val Kilmer (1959-2025), who died on Tuesday at the age of 65. the actor prompted a touching minute of commemoration.
At the annual industry event in Las Vegas, Tom Cruise was on stage for the promotion of his film “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Before he started telling about his stunts, Cruise asked the audience to join him a minute’s silence for Kilmer.
“I want a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer, honor,” Cruise praised the late actor. “I can’t tell you how much I admire his work, how grateful and honored I was when he came to ‘Top Gun’ and later came back for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. I think it would be really nice if we could hold together for a moment because he loved films and gave us a lot. Just think of all the wonderful times we had with him.” After the minute’s silence, the 62-year-old said: “I wish you all the best on your next trip.”
Cruise and Kilmer got to know each other on the set of “Top Gun” (1986), in which they mimicked the rival combat pilots Maverick and Iceman. Almost four decades later, they met for “Top Gun: Maverick” from 2022, in which Kilmer returned for a sequence. It was his last appearance in front of a film camera.
Other “top gun” stars also mourn publicly
Anthony Edwards (62) from the original “Top Gun – You Fear Nor Death nor Teufel” from 1986, explained to the “People” magazine: “Val Kilmer has created a work in his life as an artist that has touched so many people in so many media. I hope that he is resting in peace.”
Danny Ramirez (32), who was seen in “Top Gun: Maverick”, wrote in an Instagram story: “I felt blessed in being in the same space. A brilliant and generous artist and one of the coolest. Quiet in peace, Val.”
