The gay influencer Riccardo Simonetti will be a guest at Ernie and Bert in autumn. The announcement already excites the minds and leads to homophobic comments.
A planned guest appearance of the influencer Riccardo Simonetti in the children’s show “Sesame Straße” has triggered a number of gay -hostile comments.
The Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) had announced the appearance of the 32-year-old on social media last week on the next “Sesame Straße” relay, which will be broadcast from October.
“Something like that doesn’t belong in a children’s program”
The commentary column on Facebook was now closed by the administrators of the “Sesame Road” appearance: “Opinions may be freely expressed here. However, we have closed this comment column because homophobic and insulting statements against Riccardo Simonetti have increased.
Also in the remaining comments from Facebook users, sentences were always read that conveyed the lack of understanding and rejection of Simonetti’s guest appearance. For example: “Something like that doesn’t belong in a children’s program.” Or: “You make the children more mentally ill with your brainwashing.”
The “sesame road” has been standing “for tolerance and respect and a experienced positive cooperation between humans and dolls for more than 50 years,” said the NDR on request. “Domaining and inhuman comments have no place here.”
Other users, on the other hand, were happy about the announcement and praised the openness and diversity of the classic children’s television. Filming for the new season has been running since the beginning of March. In addition to Simonetti, the magicians Siegfried & Joy are also among the human guests in the doll world that have been around in Germany for more than 50 years.
For Riccardo Simonetti it is a “challenge”
Simonetti (“Glow Up-Germany’s next make-up star”) has been living openly gay for years. He commented on Instagram about the vertebrae: “Would have been too good if Germany might wait until the episode appears before making a scandal out of it.”
