Russell Brand has to go to court for different sexual offenses. Now he reported: “I was a fool, but never a rapist.”
The British comedian and actor Russell Brand (49) is faced with serious accusations. The British judiciary has charged the comedian for rape, oral sex rape, sexual coercion and sexual assault. Just a few hours after the indictment in London became known, Brand spoke up in an emotional video and once again decidedly rejected the allegations.
“When I was young and single before I had my wife and family, I was a fool. I was a fool before I lived in the Lord’s light, I was addicted to drugs and sex,” said Brand in the clip. “But what I never was is a rapist. I have never participated in non-mutual activities. I pray that you can see that if you look into my eyes,” continued Brand.
First hearing on May 2
According to the police, the indictment refers to alleged events with four different women and five concrete incidents that are said to have occurred between 1999 and 2005. The investigation had already started in September 2023 after several allegations were known in the course of a large revelation research by the Channel 4 documentary “Dispatches” and the “Sunday Times”.
Brand, which has mainly lived in the United States in recent years, is due to appear in front of the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on May 2. In the event of a conviction, the 49-year-old threatens several years in prison. The investigators emphasize that the procedure is still open. People who are affected by the case or have relevant information are asked to report to the police. The ex-husband of pop star Katy Perry (40) has already understood several times in the past that all of his sexual relationships should have been “absolutely always mutual”.
